Class Meetings

Class is scheduled for 2:30-3:45, Monday, Wednesday, Friday, but, on average, we will only meet 2 days a week.
Room: 119 Noland.

Textbook

The "required" textbook is:

  • Akienne-Moller, Haines and Hoffman. Real-Time Rendering, 3rd Edition. AK Peters publishers, 2008. (amazon)

I hesitate to force people to buy a book that we're not going to use a lot of. However, if you are going to do anything involving interactive graphics (like game programming), you'll want to have a copy of this. Its a really great book that you will come back to for a lot more than the class.

Grading:

Exact details to be determined. But it will be some combination of:

  • The projects and programming assignments (with weight roughly proportional to their durations).
  • Some mechanism for proving that you've learned the course material (maybe a take home exam, or something).
  • Class participation, discussions, and small assignments.

Assignments and Projects

There will be a series of programming assignments, details to be specified later.

There will be some form of project.

Course Web

The course web is at http://www.cs.wisc.edu/graphics/Courses/Games10 and is the main source of information for the class. You are responsible for announcements made on this site.

There will also be a website for student postings, reading discussions, and other things. You will be responsible for using it.

There is also a Google Calendar for this class. See Main.Calendar for details.

Computing Environment

This class will use the "collaboration lab" (1358 CS). Rumor is the machines in this lab will be upgraded over the course of the semester.

You are welcome to work on any other machine you have access to. However, your programs must ultimately be run on the machines in 1358. If it doesn't run on the machines in 1358, it doesn't run. Some assignments may have additional target requirements.
