For this reading, we’ll talk a little bit more about the data we’re trying to understand.
To get some good formalism/abstraction read Chapter 2 of Tamara Munzner’s (not yet published book).

Chapter 1 of the book is good too, but it is very similar to the nested model paper we just read. (chapter pdf) I recommend you look it over to remind yourself the main concepts.
If you want to comment, there will be a Piazza page for this reading (it’s optional for this reading). However, the “assignment” for Wednesday is the design challenge. You may want to bring the ideas from this reading into your thinking about that.
