Project 3 Hand-ins and Late Policy

Project 3 has the official due date of Monday, December 10th, 11:59pm.Demo sessions will begin at 1:30pm on Wednesday, December 12th.

Because of the end of the semester, and because we want to give everyone the most possible time to have the best possible project, we will give everyone extra time as follows:

For students who have not used their late pass yet: you will get a special deal that is hopefully just as good.

Signups for demo timeslots will be available on Friday, 12/7. (Hopefully, in class, but maybe in the afternoon). Only students who have not used their late pass will be allowed to sign up before noon on Monday, December 10th. All students can sign up after noon on Monday December 10th.

All students, including those participating in the audience demo, must sign up for a demo slot before noon on Wednesday, December 12th or make an alternate arrangement with the professor before that time.

The “Audience Demo”

This is optional: participating (either attending or giving a demo in it) is optional. It will not affect your grade. You should only do this because you think it will be fun. You do not have to participate (give a demo) in order to attend, but if you participate you should attend the whole thing.

We will do some demos in a “theater” style setting (a conference room). This way, people can see what other people have done.

You will have to run your demos on Yoh’s laptop (that does have a good graphics accelerator) or my laptop (ditto).

We will only be able to have a limited number of people do their demos this way. If you agree to demo in this session, you are agreeing to come to the session (we will go in a random order), and that you will arrange ahead of time for your demo to run on Yoh’s laptop.

For students participating in the “Audience” Demo

  • You must agree to participate (either by signing the sheet or sending email to the Prof.) on Friday, December 7th.
  • Only groups signed up will present. Anyone can attend to watch.
  • All members of a project team must participate in the demo (and be there for the demo session).
  • Your official demo time (for the purposes of things below) is 1:30pm on Friday, December 14th.
  • Between 1:30 and 3:00 (or before) you must make arrangements with Yoh to install your demo on his laptop. In the event that your demo doesn’t run well on his laptop, you will be given the opportunity to do a normal demo at some other time.
  • It is your responsibility to make sure that your demo runs on Yoh’s laptop before the demo session.
  • You will only get a short time to show off your program (approximately 9 minutes, with approximately 4 minutes for us to ask you to show specific things). So make sure you have a plan on how you will show off all of your coolest features in a short amount of time!

Late Policy for Students who have used their late pass

  • Your deadline is extended until the beginning of all demos (Wednesday 12/12 at 1:30pm). You may turn your project in anytime before this without penalty.
  • You may turn your documentation in late, until 11:59pm, Friday, December 14th. Note that this counts as your project being late. It is better to have a late project than no documentation.
  • If you make changes to your project between 1:30pm 12/12 and your demo, your project will be considered late. However, if the changes you made are small, we might waive the late penalty - at your demo you will need to explain the changes that you have made.
  • If you want to make changes to your project after your demo, you must discuss it with the instructor at your demo. If you are allowed to make changes, you must follow the rules BAD LINK. These changes will make the project late.

Late Policy for Students who have not used their late pass

  • Your deadline is extended until your demo time slot. You may turn your project in any time before that.
  • You may turn your documentation in until 11:59pm, Friday, December 14th.
  • If you want to make changes to your project after your demo, you must follow the rules BAD LINK. Unless your changes are small, your project will be considered late.

Making changes after Your Demo

If you make changes after your demo, you must do the following:

  • Your program must “1 button compile” on a CSL Windows machine (for example, you must have the FLTK paths in your project). We won’t fiddle with your program to get it to compile.
  • You must have a file in your handing called “ChangesAfter.txt” that explains what changes you made, and how we can look at it in your program.
  • If you added a new feature, you should make a picture called login-ChangesAfterX.jpg (where login is your login, and X is a number) showing each new feature off.
  • We might ask you questions by email.
  • Changes made after your demo must be completed by 11:59pm on Friday, December 14th.
