Tableau

by Mike Gleicher on March 7, 2012

Tableau has generously made their data visualization software available to our class.

Tableau is a very impressive, industrial-strength visualization tool, designed to help people explore large data sets interactively. It is based around some very cool ideas on how to map data to visualizations efficiently (even in massive and complicated databases), and has grown to include a lot of tools to automate the application of “best practices.”

Instructions on how to download and install Tableau are available on the Piazza page (it is for students in this class only).

We will probably talk about Tableau (and some of the research ideas behind it) later in the semester, however I wanted to tell people about it now so you can make use of it for projects.

Tableau’s data visualization software is provided through the Tableau for Teaching program.
